Columbus folks, it’s time to wine down.
Zachary’s owner Doug Pellum’s newest venture is taking off – turning The Tavern from an event venue into The Tavern Wine Bar, Columbus’ newest hangout. Expecting to open near the Fourth of July, you can check out The Tavern Wine Bar at 418 Second Ave. N.
Restaurant general manager Caleb McCoy-Wren will lead operations at the new spot.
“The Tavern Wine Bar will be a small, ambient space for people who like a more serene and quiet atmosphere to enjoy time with friends and family,” he said. “We will offer a variety of wines and specialized cocktails with some of the custom ingredients being made in-house.”
In addition to specialty beverages, The Tavern will offer charcuterie boards, flatbreads and small appetizers.
“(This is) something that we haven’t quite had before,” he said. “For our wine lovers and for those who want just a calm and relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a small bite to eat with a beverage.”
The Tavern Wine Bar plans to be open from 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and will offer a specialty brunch menu on Saturdays. Keep an eye out on social media for more updates.
Craft store folks, we’ve got some news. With JOANN closing its stores, it’s left a giant yarn ball-sized hole in your hearts and a national store in Columbus is here to stitch a fix. The Michaels Companies Inc. acquired the intellectual property and private label brand of the now-shuttered JOANN – meaning Michaels added more than 600 products for sewing and quilting, as well as fabric, yarn and specialty threads.
“We’re honored to have the opportunity to welcome JOANN customers into our creative community and are committed to delivering the selection, value and inspiration they are looking for at Michaels,” said David Boone, Michaels’ CEO, in a press release. “This acquisition allows us to better serve both new and existing customers, respond to rising demand across categories and build on our momentum as the destination for creating and celebrating in North America.”
More upgrades in Columbus, Mudd Dobbers has found its new location.
Lisa Halverson opened her store Mudd Dobbers in July 2020 at Holly Hills Plaza. Soon, she’ll open her shop at 419 Wilkins Wise Road, a space more than five times larger than her original storefront.
Mudd Dobbers opened in July 2020. Halverson said she’s excited about the new 12,000 square-foot space for her vendors selling various items, including furniture, antiques, consignment clothing, local art, pottery and more. Keep up with Mudd Dobbers on social media for more updates.
The new gas station and laundromat location on Military Road near Lowe’s held its grand opening this week.
Gill Fani, who owns King’s Court near downtown, announced the construction for Energy Stop in February 2024. The “food-focused” gas station features Krispy Krunchy Chicken, Italian pizza, build-your-own taco bowls, more snacks and is open 24/7.
Attached to the gas station is Military Coin Laundromat, also open 24/7. The laundromat includes free wi-fi, coffee, and fast, industrial machines.
Heading just outside of Starkville, a new restaurant is officially open in Ackerman.
The Guard, located in the former National Guard building at 9540 Hwy. 12, officially opened Tuesday. Owners Sharon Humphrey and Earl Baker – restaurant veterans with two decades of experience – are serving up daily lunch buffets and classic comfort dinners like hamburger steak, fried chicken salad, broccoli and cheese and more. The Guard also plans to host live music and community events. It’s open every day from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
