If you ask my high school track coach, you can outrun any problem you have.
With more than 160 million runners and walkers in the U.S., interest in the fitness activity and sport continues to increase. A new store in Starkville wants to meet that demand.
Shoe Country Warehouse Run is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday in College Park on Russell Street, right next to George Sherman. This is a second location for SCW, with the original store in Tupelo.
Christy Davis, along with her husband Brandon Davis and co-owner Sean-O’Rourke, are happy to bring folks all the necessities to run effectively. Christy said the running specialty store is actually her second “run” at a store in Starkville, as she previously owned Shoe Country and later B. Davis Shoes. She’s excited to be back in the game.
“It’s been a lot of fun to be back,” she said. “The community of Starkville has been incredibly excited and welcoming to us. We have been overwhelmed with the genuine kindness the customers have shown.”
Check out the new store’s offerings, from athletic shoes like Brooks and Asics to recovery shoes like Oofos (shout out Dawn Staley) and Birkenstock (shout out to my German grandmother).
There’s some excitement coming this weekend, and I’m not just talking about college football.
West Point is hosting the Prairie Arts Festival on Saturday. This Point City tradition has stayed strong since 1979. Come out and see vendors, ice cream cranked from a John Deere tractor, live music, rock climbing and more!
Moving over to Columbus, we have some good news too!
Even though Rebound trampoline park is still closed, the bowling alley and arcade have both reopened. The trampoline park, bowling alley and arcade all closed indefinitely after sustaining weather damage in May. According to its website, the trampoline portion remains closed “till further notice.”
Good news continues with the Columbus Tractor Supply Store hosting a Farmers’ Market 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Head down Highway 45 to check out locally-grown produce, seasonal products, arts and crafts, food trucks and more.
“This is a great opportunity for members of our community to support local farmers while also getting to enjoy deliciously fresh food,” said Fernando Palomino, manager for the Columbus Tractor Supply store.
Don’t forget the regular Saturday markets at the Hitching Lot in Columbus and at Fire Station Park in Starkville.
Moving farther down Highway 45, Friendly City Mini Warehouses at 7626 Hwy. 45 N. has a new name and owner. Friendly City sold the mini-warehouse location, now named Crown Storage. Former owner of the property, Dispatch Publisher Peter Imes, said the sale does not include or affect Friendly City’s other four storage properties.
I hope all your favorite college teams win this weekend (except TSUN). See y’all next week.
