Is Save A Lot coming to Columbus? The word is still out and there’s not a lot of answers.
According to the Columbus Building Office, we still don’t have any permits filed and a Save A Lot corporate representative said “there are no plans for a Columbus location.”
The Missouri-based grocery store opened in 1977 and this isn’t the first time Columbus has been a talking point for the grocery store.
Nearly a decade ago, The Dispatch reported Save A Lot posted job positions on their website with a Columbus location listed. With the Save A Lot in West Point closing down last year, the Houston store is the closest in proximity.
As of now, it looks like Save A Lot is not officially coming to Columbus, but keep an eye out in case things change.
Also in Columbus, a Flowood-based psychiatric clinic has expanded to the area. Psycamore Psychiatric Programs, 28 Glenwood Drive, opened earlier this month. Tanner Bennett, marketing manager, said the company has been open for 20 years with locations in Biloxi, Flowood and now Columbus. It provides intensive out-patient psychiatric services. After opening an office in Biloxi, Bennett said they noticed a need in a military base city, hence the company’s expansion to Columbus.
“We targeted Columbus because of the military community,” he said. “We know there’s a big need for our types of programming. … Also, there’s almost no mental health resources for what we do.”
He added Psycamore provides services that are more intensive than weekly therapy but less intensive than an in-patient psychiatric hospital. It also provides services for adolescents to adults and is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (662) 243-0131 or visit psycamore.com
Moving to Starkville, after nearly five years in business, Nutrigroove is closing.
The acai bowl cafe first opened in Starkville in September 2020 and moved to its current location on Maxwell Street last year.
The company announced its immediate closure on social media sites Wednesday morning due to “personal reasons.”
“This wasn’t an easy decision, but one we feel is necessary,” the post read. “We are deeply grateful for the support of our wonderful community over the years. We truly appreciate the friendships, loyalty and memories we’ve shared. Thank you for understanding and we wish you all the very best in the future.”
Moving just south of Starkville in Louisville, there’s a new disc golf course open at Legion State Park.
Justin Thompson, a Louisville native, joined the “Friends of Legion Park” in his hometown hoping to help create a tournament-friendly new disc golf course for the area to attract visitors.
Earlier this month, the park hosted the inaugural Big Iron Classic, welcoming nearly 100 players.
“The feedback from the tournament (we) hosted was phenomenal,” Thompson said. “… We want Legion State Park to be a disc golf destination for the country. We encourage everyone of all ages to try out disc golf. It’s instantly competitive, good for building stamina, great for enjoying the outdoors and good for putting the phone down and just being active.”
Check out the new course at 635 Legion State Park Drive.
