Business in downtown Columbus continues to boom.
Gratia Artisanal Eatery, 224 Fifth St. S., is holding its soft opening starting Friday. The coffee shop owners, James and Sarah White, opened Sola Cigar Co. on Third Avenue South earlier this year, as well as opening 740 Coffee Company in Caledonia in October 2023.
Their new shop in Columbus will have a soft opening Friday through April 10 from 6 a.m.-6 p.m., offering coffee, tea, deli-style sandwiches, salads and chicken salads.
Also downtown, the new consignment shop opened on Wednesday.
The Southern Exchange, 418 Main St., is officially open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Antebellum homeowners John Klosterman and Billy Cox announced the new store in late February. It sells high-quality home items, including books, rugs, furniture, jewelry, lawn art and more.

Moving over to Starkville, Hibbett Sports is opening a second location at University Crossing near Little Caesars.
With one location already open near Kroger at 874 Hwy. 12., the second location will open April 12 at 622 Hwy. 12 E.
“Adding a new location will allow Hibbett to better serve the community demand for the hottest sneaker releases, women’s athleisure styles and men’s fashion staples from top brands like Nike, Jordan, New Balance and more,” Wendy Yellin, Hibbett public relations representative, said.
Hibbett, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, has more than 1,000 stores across 36 states.
Once open, you can check out the new store 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays.
In October, Connie’s Chicken filed a building permit for the former Chicken Salad Chick building at 602 Hwy. 12. Folks, they’re moving fast.
I still haven’t heard back from a Connie’s Chicken representative but the progress is moving since the first announcement of the Tupelo-based chicken restaurant.
Connie’s first opened in Tupelo by Constatine Asters, along with his sons, four decades ago. Since opening, the chicken restaurant has started a regional expansion with locations in Oxford, West Point and soon-to-be Starkville.
See y’all next week!
