After an explosive November announcement, the newest coffee joint in Starkville is currently construction.
7 Brew, the Arkansas-based drive-thru coffee chain, is moving dirt just east of Newk’s, right in front of Ace Hardware. Yes, the parking lot is a little chaotic at the moment, but hopefully it won’t be for too long.
7 Brew first opened in Rogers, Arkansas, in 2017 with a simple concept: seven original coffees, hence the name. Fast forward to today, and the brand has expanded to more than 530 stands nationwide and includes energy chillers, teas, lemonades, lattes, mochas, chai, smoothies and shakes.
I did reach out to 7 Brew about a timeline for opening day and have not heard back yet on the details.
Big things are happening in this parking lot, y’all.
Small Time Hot Dogs is returning to Starkville and setting up in Miskelly’s parking lot. If you’ve missed them, now’s your chance.
The menu reads like a tour of America’s best hot dog traditions: Rajun Cajun, Chicago style, New York style, Buffalo wing, French onion and more. For those who don’t appreciate a good ballpark classic, they’ve got barbecue nachos, funnel cakes, pulled pork po’boys and other fair-style favorites.
I take hot dogs very seriously, and I’m not the only one. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, more than 905 million pounds of hot dogs were sold at retail stores last year, with more than $11 billion spent in U.S. supermarkets alone. That doesn’t even count ballparks, food trucks and festivals.
So get your dogs while you can.
Heading over to Columbus, the local bookstore has reopened.
After a few weeks of closure, Friendly City Books has officially reopened in a new location at 109 Fifth St. N., right next to Coffee House on Fifth.
The independent bookstore welcomed customers back Saturday for its grand reopening and is now operating during regular hours: noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
Make sure you get out there and show your support for FCB’s brand new chapter.
I know that I’m pretty lucky. Writing this column keeps me in the community and allows me to see and meet a ton of business owners throughout the Golden Triangle. Every week, I get a front-row seat to local and national entrepreneurs and the personal stories that keep them open year after year. Owning and running a business is no small feat. That’s why this time of year matters.
The Dispatch’s Best of the Triangle is your chance to show up for the barber who knows your usual, the mechanic who keeps your car running, the florist who comes in clutch with the best arrangements, the local gift shop that saves you during the holidays and your go-to spot for sandwiches, chicken tenders or Mexican on a busy week night.
You can vote online at cdispatch.com/best, mail ballots to P.O. Box 511, Columbus, MS 39703 or drop them by The Dispatch front office on Main Street. All ballots must be received by 3 p.m. April 1.
Support local. Vote for the best. Celebrate the businesses that keep the Golden Triangle running.
See y’all next week.
