Police are requesting the public’s help in locating a man believed to be in possession of a machine gun conversion device.
Chandler Burnett, 20, also known as “Chingy,” is wanted by Columbus Police Department after being found in possession of the device at a traffic stop, Public Information Officer Bryan Moore told The Dispatch.
Burnett was stopped by CPD about two weeks ago at a traffic stop along Highway 45 when officers confiscated a gun from his possession, Moore said. Officers were later taking the gun apart to log into evidence when they realized a conversion device had been installed, modifying the weapon to fire automatically.
“With those particular guns, you don’t know that it has a conversion device on it until you take it apart,” said Moore, adding that possession of the device is a felony offense.
Moore said Burnett was asked to turn himself in last week, but he has not been located.
Anyone with information regarding Burnett’s whereabouts are asked to contact CPD or leave an anonymous tip with Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
