A man was shot and killed at Columbus Heights Tuesday night.
According to Sheriff Eddie Hawkins, someone called 911 at about 7:35 p.m. to report shots fired near the subdivision, which is off of South Lehmberg Road.
Moments later an ambulance, which was passing by on another call, was flagged down by a passer-by, and the crew found a man lying in the street.
The ambulance crew “was there before the deputies were,” Hawkins said.
The unidentified victim was dead of a gunshot wound to the chest, he said. No weapon has been recovered.
“We don’t have much to go on yet,” Hawkins said. “We don’t have a suspect.”
Hawkins asked anyone with any information on this case to call the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at 662-328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7151, or use the P3 Tips smartphone app.
