A police pursuit ended in the death of an Amory man Tuesday.
Amechie Jerel Lowe, 27, of 1064 K Ave., died in a motorcycle accident after he refused to pull over for authorities.
At 6:52 p.m. Tuesday, the Sulligent (Ala.) Police Department began a pursuit on the west side of the city on Highway 278 of a motorcycle traveling a high rate of speed going west toward Mississippi, Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley reported.
The driver, Lowe, refused to stop and crossed over into Mississippi, continuing until he got to Greenwood Springs in Monroe County and turned north on Splunge Road. About seven minutes after the chase began, Lowe lost control of the bike on Splunge Road, about three miles north of Highway 278, and was thrown into a tree.
Lowe was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple trauma, Gurley reported. He was driving a 2002 Suzuki GSX.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The accident was investigated by the Monroe County Sheriff”s Department, which had been notified of the pursuit on the radio by Sulligent police.
