Columbus Police Department has had a busy week, making arrests for aggravated assault, felony child neglect and sexual battery, according to Chief Joseph Daughtry.
Tyler Sentell Smith, 42, was charged with aggravated assault manifesting extreme indifference to life after allegedly shooting a man in the face on Tuesday, Daughtry said.
The shooting occurred in the area of 10th Avenue South and 15th Avenue South, Daughtry said.
The victim arrived at the emergency room at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle via private vehicle with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He told investigators he was at a friend’s house and had been in an argument with the suspect, who allegedly left the house, came back with a weapon and fired three to four rounds at the victim.
One shot hit the victim in a “through and through” wound on the left side of his face.
Smith was arrested the next day. He was denied bond and is still in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.

In a separate case, Nathaniel Dewayne Hayden, 45, was arrested Monday and charged with sexual battery of a minor under 12.
Hayden knew the child, but Daughtry would not release any more information on the arrest.
Hayden is still in custody. Bond was set at $50,000.

Also in a separate case, Yolana Jefferson Moore, 43, was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony child neglect.
Moore had a teenage daughter with a serious medical condition and was not getting the child adequate treatment, Daughtry said.
He declined to release any further information about the arrest.
Moore also is still in custody. Bond has not been set.
Anyone with any information on these crimes is asked to call Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at (800) 530-7151 or use the P3 smartphone app. Tipsters remain anonymous, and information leading to an arrest may bring a cash reward.
