Recognized for her contributions to Columbus’ Market Street Festival events, former WCBI-TV Promotions Director Susan Bell Thursday was named the recipient of the President’s Choice Award at the Columbus Main Street Annual Awards event.
“Susan was the Promotions Director at WCBI for 16 years,” said Main Street Director Amber Murphree-Brislin. “Susan was the Market Street Festival Chairman in 2010 and 2011 and has been involved with Market Street Festival, since the beginning. Susan also played a role in just about every event and committee associated with Main Street Columbus. She and I began the New Years’ Eve Block Party and Ball Drop — the list goes on and on.”
Bell, who currently is the promotions director at WAAY-TV in Huntsville was not present at the ceremony. Brislin said she would be presented the award during the 2012 Market Street Festival.
Mitchener, Stacy and Associates accounting firm was awarded Main Street’s design award for renovation, as was Huck’s Place restaurant, for their renovation and mezzanine expansion.
River Ridge Condominiums and the Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau also received the award.
“Main Street Design Awards are given each year to recognize outstanding projects, within the historic downtown district, by enhancing the economic and visual appearance and improving viability of the area,” Brislin said. “These awards are for projects completed in 2011.”
Outgoing Main Street Board President Stewart Stafford commended Main Street Columbus members for their cooperation and work ethics.
“It has been a very busy year and it has been very successful due to your efforts and hard work,” Stafford said. “You have worked together and we appreciate your service.”
Stafford, who was replaced by Galloway-Chandler-McKinney Insurance partner Brandt Galloway, reflected on his term as president.
“It has been a pleasure to work with such a talented and dedicated group of folks as the staff and volunteers of the Columbus Main Street organization,” Stafford said. “I think the value to our community of a viable, thriving downtown business district can’t be over-stated.”
