Unemployment rates in Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties rose in November, coinciding with the state rate, while Noxubee and Clay counties showed nominal improvement compared to October, according to a report by the Mississippi Department of Employment and Security.
Lowndes and Oktibbeha’s jobless rates rose 0.2 and 0.3 percent compared to the previous month, while Clay and Noxubee fell 0.1 And 0.2 percent, respectively.
Compared to a year ago, Noxubee and Clay saw the most significant drops, currently sitting at 5.7 and 4.3 percent, respectively. Oktibbeha county rose 0.2 percent from 3.4 percent in November 2021, and Lowndes currently sits with no difference at 3.8 percent.
On the state and national level, Mississippi’s unemployment rose 0.3 percent from 3.4 percent in October and the national rate remained the same at 3.4 percent. The state rate also increased 0.1 percent from 3.6 percent in November 2021 and the national rate fell 0.5 percent.
The number of unemployed people in Lowndes and Oktibbeha rose to 950 and 810, respectively. In contrast, Noxubee and Clay fell to 190 and 350 people, bringing the total number of unemployed in the Golden Triangle up by 80 people compared to October. Across all four counties, there are 2,300 people unemployed, marking a 1.29 percent improvement from 2,330 in November 2021.
There are currently 45,300 people unemployed in the state, showing a 0.6 percent increase from 45,000 in November 2021. Across the nation, there are currently 5,523,000, compared to 6,302,000 in November 2021.
