An off-duty reserve deputy for Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office was injured in a wreck on Gardner Boulevard this morning and has been taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Richard Brantley, 48, was on his personal motorcycle when he collided with a 2007 Chevrolet Impala at the intersection of Gardner Boulevard and Morgan Avenue at about 7:15 a.m., said City Public Information Officer Joe Dillon.
Dillon did not have the Impala’s driver’s name by press time, but said the driver is 28.
Brantley collided with the vehicle when the vehicle attempted to turn left off Gardner and onto Morgan. Brantley was thrown over the hood of the car and landed in the road, Dillon said.
Brantley was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and immediately flown to NMMC, Dillon said. He didn’t know Brantley’s condition but said Brantley was conscious and talking when he was taken to Baptist.
Columbus Police Department is investigating the accident.
