New lids are forthcoming for Lowndes County schools.
The Lowndes County School District approved the issuance of $3 million in school construction bonds Friday to repair or warranty every roof in the district.
LCSD Superintendent Mike Halford said the preliminary work to receive the bonds from federal stimulus funds was performed in August, but the issue was brought before the board Friday and passed unanimously.
The board also approved a motion to make the Whitaker family an offer of $40,000 for a 2.6-acre piece of land running along the parking lot access road at the Caledonia schools campus. The land, which borders Caledonia High School”s most recent building addition, will be used if expansion becomes necessary for new classrooms.
Todd Matthews, with the Mississippi Forestry Commission, appeared before the board to present options on 16th Section timberland, which generates revenue for the district. The board chose to turn the matter over to Halford and Board Attorney Jeff Smith to research the matter and present a recommendation at the board”s January meeting.
In other business the board:
- Accepted the resignation of West Lowndes Advanced Placement Coordinator Samantha Breshears.
- Approved the hiring of Elizabeth Lott to replace Breshears.
- Approved Lott also serving as AP tutor.
- Approved changes to the AP policy naming AP coordinators to AP screening teams at each district school. AP screening teams determine which students are placed in AP courses.
