The deadline to vote in the Aug. 8 primary election is Monday, July 10, by 5 p.m.
Circuit clerks’ offices in Lowndes, Oktibbeha, Clay and Noxubee counties will be open on Saturday, July 8, from 8 a.m. until noon for voter registration.
Voters do not need to bring a photo ID to register to vote, said Lowndes County Circuit Clerk Teresa Barksdale, but they do need to have either a social security number or a driver’s license number.
A photo ID will be required to vote, she said.
Mail-in applications must be postmarked no later than July 10 to be accepted.
Oktibbeha County Circuit Clerk’s Office Elections Clerk Sheryl Elmore said it was important to make sure the clerk’s office had the proper address on file.
“I mail all voter registration cards to the address they provide, and then they would have to show that ID at the polling place,” Elmore said.
The upcoming elections include, on the county level, supervisors, chancery and circuit clerks, sheriff, coroner, tax assessor and collector, justice court judges and election commissioners. It also includes district attorney and state-level offices, including that of governor.
