Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle will donate four advanced high school microscopes worth $2,000 to the Mississippi School for Mathematics & Science Foundation for the school”s science department.
“We are pleased to help the Mississippi School for Math and Science Foundation,” said Baptist Golden Triangle CEO and Administrator Paul Cade. “We value their efforts to meet the needs of the community and hope our gift will greatly benefit the students.”
Baptist Golden Triangle has maintained a working relationship with the school for almost 10 years. Each semester, one to five students participate in a job shadowing program at the hospital, typically in radiology or nursing. These students are selected based on their academic performances.
The school”s science department offers a wide variety of courses in physics, chemistry, biology and multidisciplinary topics. They range from introductory classes to college level courses to Advanced Placement classes such as genetics, optics and microbiology.
“The highly sophisticated microscopes Baptist Golden Triangle is contributing will help ensure that our students learn techniques they will encounter in college and in a professional science career,” said Howard Moore, executive director for the MSMS Foundation.
With 328 beds, Baptist Golden Triangle is the largest regional hospital affiliated with the Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care system.
