Get ready to put your new year’s resolutions to get in shape to work, y’all.
The new Planet Fitness is opening in Starkville on Feb. 17 in the former Gordmans building at 844 Hwy. 12 W.
Project Manager Will Pelton told me construction has been underway since the end of November and is now on track to finish in six weeks despite a few delays from the holidays and some supply chain issues for plumbing and electrical components.
“We started to build and then encountered the holidays,” Pelton said. “We’ve had some slight delays, hunting season factored in there and Thanksgiving and Christmas. So we’re shooting for the Feb. 17 opening date. If we continue to experience a few supply chain and labor issues, we may shoot for March 17.”
Moving east, the old Cadence Bank building at 606 Hwy. 12 W. is being fully renovated for an Express Clinic. Construction workers on site told me the demolition phase of the project has been finished on the interior and crews are currently removing some of the concrete medians in the old drive-thru banking area and applying new walls to the inside.
I contacted contractor Phillip O’Nan, but he was unavailable to speak on the project at this time. I can’t wait to see how the build turns out.
In other Starkville news, Chalet Arts, a picture framing and art business located at 618 Hwy. 12 W., is closing on Friday, owner Lorie Wood said.
Wood said after her husband Mark passed away in October, she has decided to finally close the 47-year-old business by selling all of the store’s inventory.
“We’re not framing or printing,” Wood said. “We’re just trying to sell off the inventory, and Friday will be the last day.”
But that’s not all, folks. I hope you are ready for this tasty update right from the lovely town of West Point.
The new Pizza Hut at 7003 Hwy. 45 Alt. is holding a grand opening and ribbon-cutting Friday. The pizzeria will officially open for service on Tuesday, owner Michael Quinn said.
Quinn said the restaurant will be a casual dine-in and take-out pizza restaurant and is very happy to see the new business come to fruition.
“It’s a town that needs a Pizza Hut and deserves one,” Quinn said. “We want to make sure we give customers what they deserve.”
Quinn said his team has been prepping the building over the last two weeks to be ready for opening. He has hired more than 30 employees and says the community response has been very positive.
“I got to give it to West Point and the community and the officials for being so easy to work with,” he said. “It’s just so hospitable to get in town that there was nothing they wouldn’t do to get it open as quickly as possible.”
Finally, my friends, Nicole Huff, owner of Southern Flour Bakery at 1920 Hwy. 45 N. will soon begin holding a few vending spots open in her bakery for new business owners to showcase their products at the store beginning on Jan. 14.
Huff said she is working on getting people signed up and already has a few interested businesses in the works.
“I’m trying to support young men and women just starting their businesses at home,” Huff said. “I’m working on a signup form this week.”
Well, folks, it’s time to let the credits roll on this edition of Goings on with Grant. Make sure to check back in next week for more goings on in business.
