Well, folks, sometimes you have to move into a new space before you feel like you’re at home.
It would appear that Power of the Almond, a keto and sugar-free bakery located at 60 Technology Blvd. in Starkville, has taken the sentiment to heart.
Owner Kirk Hutchinson told me the bakery is currently renovating a new business space at 608 Hwy. 12 E. next to Starbucks and plans to open in its new location on August 1.
Hutchinson opened the bakery at its current location in 2021. Since then, he feels the space has not seen enough customer traffic to grow, and after operating there for a few years, he decided it was finally time to move on.
“We are in the research park, and it’s just terrible visibility,” Hutchinson said. “Nobody knew we were out there. So moving the location is key to a successful business, that’s for sure.”
In the new space, he hopes to increase business and expand some of the bakery’s services, including a grab-and-go section for soups and sandwiches and more food options.
“We’re also trying to appeal to students as well,” he said. “We had this custom bar installed with outlets for laptops, so, if anybody needs a quick business lunch meeting, or if students want to come study, it’s a great spot that’s easily accessible.”
But Power of the Almond isn’t the only Starkville business moving into a new spot.
Dawg House Playground and Salon moved into its new location at 13585 Hwy. 12 on June 5.
Owner Anna Garner said the business has already started booking day appointments and is offering its full range of services for doggy day care, pet boarding and bathing and has an on-staff trainer for pet lessons.
While the business is open now, Garner said a few renovations still need to be made, such as paving for the parking lot, a second play area for pets and decorating on the interior.
“We are taking time to adjust to the space and what works best for us and the dogs,” she said.
Garner said the business will have a grand opening to celebrate the new space sometime in July.
Moving to Columbus, a new aesthetics and waxing business, Rich Face Aesthetics, is opening June 30 at 118 S. McCrary Road, right across the street from Sonic on Alabama Street, owner Victoria White said.
White said the business will feature facial services, eyelash work and waxing to start, and will move into cosmetics and makeup later this year.
Business hours will be Monday through Saturday, and customers can book by visiting the business website at richfaceeasthetics.as.me
Finally, my friends, Thai food is returning to downtown Friday.
Mark Kenner, owner of Main Street Thai, opens Friday at 4 p.m. after having a successful soft opening last week.
Kenner said he is excited to open finally, and suggests that new restaurant patrons try the drunken noodles and the chicken potstickers. I, for one, can’t wait.
Here is wishing him and his team luck on the new restaurant.
Well, folks, I better get going before it starts raining again. Make sure to check back in next week for more goings on in business.
