Well, y’all, nothing hits the spot like a piece of pizza and a pint of ice-cold beer to wash it down. At least, that’s how I feel about it.
With that said, Boardtown Pizza and Pints, located at 705 University Drive in the Cotton District, is shooting to reopen later this month, according to a Facebook post.
The restaurant originally closed in March due to a small electrical fire, but owner Tyler Klaas and his team have been working hard to renovate and reopen.
A solid reopening date has not been set, but Klaas commented on the post that the restaurant hopes to turn the lights back on within the next few weeks.
I tried to contact Klaas to speak more on the reopening but didn’t hear back in time. Honestly, I cannot wait to try the restaurant out.
But Boardtown Pizza and Pints isn’t the only business moving and grooving in Starkville right now.
The Shine Facial Bar, an Alabama-based skin care and facial business, is opening its third location in Starkville in the former Strange Brew Coffeehouse at 401 University Drive.
Owner Jonathan Mason told me he and his team opened their first location in Tuscaloosa in 2020. He had hoped to open a Starkville location soon after but held off after a new spot at Auburn opened up in 2021.
After hearing from a friend about the old coffeehouse opening up for a new tenant, he jumped at the opportunity.
“We just are much closer to Starkville than we are to Auburn, and we’ve always wanted to be a part of the Starkville community,” Mason said. “We’re super excited to basically be moving just an hour and a half down the road.”
Mason said he plans to open the new location sometime this fall after renovating the space. The business will include facial treatments for acne, skin hydration and wrinkle prevention.
Moving to Columbus, Sol Y Luna, a new Mexican restaurant located in the old Logan’s Roadhouse building at 589 18th Ave. N., draws ever closer to its opening.
I tried contacting owner Felipe Hernandez for an update on the new venture but didn’t hear back. A manager for the restaurant and his other business, Mi Hacienda, said Hernandez and his team are now training up staff and plan to open within the next two weeks.
“It shouldn’t be too much longer,” he said.
I know I am excited to try the new burritos, but that’s just my kind of dish.
Finally, my friends, Columbus resident Chris Hannon has launched an online event advertising and entertainment business, Do The 662.
Hannon said he opened the business in late July because he felt that Columbus and other cities in North Mississippi needed a one-stop shop to learn about different events and festivals.
“We are doing events of all kinds like Latin music at a local club, Market Street Festival, trivia nights at a local pub,” Hannon said. “We are certainly doing events here in Columbus, Starkville and West Point but also in places like Senatobia, Fernando and Cleveland too.”
The website includes services for businesses and other organizations to post free advertisements to the website and its associated Facebook and Instagram pages.
The business also offers advertising campaigns that include posting with a picture and links to other websites, and customers can visit the business’s Facebook page for more information on that and pricing, Hannon said.
Well, folks, that’s all for now. Make sure to check back in next week for more goings on in business.
