When it comes to lunch, it’s always been difficult for me to pass on a good slice of pizza, and on the weekends, maybe even a beer to wash it down.
That said, Boardtown Pizza and Pints, a local pizza eatery at 705 University Drive in Starkville, opened for lunch starting this past Monday, owner Tyler Klaas said.
Klaas told me after just a few months of the restaurant’s reopening, he finally gathered enough staff and business to open for lunchtime hours. Restaurant hours are now Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The restaurant initially closed in March due to a small electrical fire and reopened in August.
“The main reason we didn’t do it before was after the fire we lost we lost 80% of our staff,” Klaas said. “Getting people rehired and retrained was the biggest need for this, and now we’re able to do that. We had a lot of people asking for it.”
Klaas said he also plans to start opening the restaurant for takeout orders Thursday through Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. so customers who come in for a late-night brew can also have a fresh slice of pizza.
“We’re going to give it a go this weekend,” he said. “I was just thinking that if I’m going to be up here, I might as well see if I can’t sell some pizza.”
Moving to Columbus, Biddy Saw Works, a landscaping and outdoor equipment store located at 218 Hwy. 69, expanded its location to include a mulch, potting dirt and pine straw section next door.
Owner Blake Bradford said after purchasing the 46,173 square-foot lot right next to his business in 2022, he and his team have been storming up ideas to expand the store’s offerings for its customer base.
Bradford said the new dirt service includes several types of mulch, including black hardwood and pine mulch, to name a few. The store also offers delivery for up to eight yards of dirt for customers in the Golden Triangle.
“Our customers are landscapers and do-it-yourselfers,” Bradford said. “They’re looking to come to one place and be able to get all their supplies, and there’s nothing on this side of town that sells mulch and topsoil. We basically saw an opportunity here on the east side of town that nobody was fulfilling.”
Moving to West Point, a new event venue, The Robinson Center Venue and Events, opened Friday at 389 Commerce St., next to the West Point Police Department.
Co-owner Elina Robinson said she and her husband Lamar had been looking to open an event venue in West Point for more than a year.
After finding the building in early 2023, they began renovating and preparing the space for several events, parties and business meetings.
“We love family, and we love having gatherings and thought that it would be a great location for other families and businesses and community leaders to come together and just celebrate an occasion,” she said.
For those interested in booking an event or special occasion they can reach out to Robinson at (662) 391-2044 or email her at [email protected].
Finally, my friends, everything ends, even the businesses we open and operate for our benefit and others.
28 Studio, a photography and content creation studio space at 27363 E. Main St. in West Point, closed on Saturday.
Owner Tiara Clayborn had opened the business in early September as a booking space for photographers, videographers and other creatives to have a place to create interesting content.
“Today was bittersweet and had to be one of the hardest things I have ever done,” Clayborn wrote in a Facebook post announcing the closure. “Today, I officially closed my business in Mississippi and said goodbye to the ones that were still connected (to it). I don’t know what comes next, but I know it will be in (God’s) will and not my own! I will always cherish my roots, but it’s time to embark on a new journey.”
I tried to contact Clayborn to ask why she decided to close the studio and where she is going from here, but never heard back. Here is wishing her luck in her future endeavors.
