The 14th Chancery Court will host clinics to help local low-income families receive free legal assistance for family law matters.
Clinics are scheduled for Aug. 1 at Oktibbeha County Chancery Courthouse in Starkville and Aug. 8 at Noxubee County Courthouse in Macon. Each clinic will run from noon to 4 p.m.
Coordinated by Judge Paula Drungole-Ellis and the 14th Chancery Court staff, the clinics will provide assistance in legal matters such as no-fault divorces, adult name changes, simple wills, advanced health care directives and power of attorney. Local volunteer lawyers will provide limited legal advice and help clinic participants prepare documents.
The clinics are open to residents of Chickasaw, Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee, Oktibbeha and Webster counties.
Eligible residents’ annual income must fall below 200% of the federal poverty level depending on the size of the family. For a family of four the annual income would need to fall below $64,300 to qualify.
