Franklin Elementary Medical Sciences and Wellness Magnet School was evacuated briefly this afternoon after the motor in one of the school”s heating units overheated.
Teachers smelled smoke, and the school followed fire drill procedure to evacuate the building, said Columbus schools” public information officer, Janet Lewis.
The Columbus Fire Department inspected the building. The heater, which heats two rooms, was shut off. There was no damage to the building.
The evacuation lasted less than 30 minutes, and the unit was repaired this afternoon, Lewis said.
