WEST POINT — Four West Point residents have been arrested in connection to a Wednesday night shooting that injured two young men, leaving one of them in critical condition.
Brentston Edwards, 20, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a weapon, and five counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, among other charges.
Tristan Edwards and Jashaun Barker, both 19, have each been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, and five accessory after the fact charges for shooting into an occupied dwelling.
Tiffany Barker, 40, Jashaun Barker’s mother, has also been charged with obstruction of justice.
West Point Police Lt. Mary Huggins told The Dispatch the shooting happened at about 8:15 p.m. at Martin Cove. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired.
Witnesses said a Blue Honda Accord drove through the area, and the occupants of the car opened fire, Huggins said.
When officers arrived, Huggins said, they found a 16-year-old male victim lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the head. A 20-year-old victim also had shrapnel wounds to his lower leg and a grazing gunshot wound to his back.
A home with five occupants inside had also been hit in the shooting, Huggins said, though none of them were shot. A car in the area was also shot, she said.
Officers called for medical assistance, Huggins said, and the 16-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point. From there, he was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis for further medical care, where he remains in critical condition.
The other victim was taken to NMMC by personal vehicle, Huggins said, where he was treated and released.
Brentston Edwards and Tristan Edwards were arrested Wednesday night, Huggins said. Jashaun Barker and Tiffany Barker were arrested Thursday.
Brentston Edwards and Tristan Edwards are both being held at the Clay County Jail on bonds of $500,000. Jashaun Barker is also being held on a bond of $400,000, though Huggins said bond for one of the charges is still pending.
Tiffany Barker was released Thursday evening on a bond of $368.25.
