Columbus’ Wassail Fest in downtown Columbus takes on a new look for 2020.
“We realized that it would be difficult this year to enjoy Wassail Fest in the same way as in the past. However, that ‘Grinch’ is not going to take away the fun of our holidays and we chose to alter, instead of cancel, our community holiday plans”, said Barbara Bigelow, executive director of Main Street Columbus.
“Grinch Fest in Whoville” is 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 downtown, presented by Saint Leo University Columbus Air Force Base. Sixteen downtown merchants will be open Friday evening for shopping. Pick up a “Whoville Passport” at participating merchants and get it stamped for a chance to win a grand prize in gift certificates provided by Main Street Columbus.
“There will be two lucky winners this year,” Bigelow said. “First prize is gift certificates worth $650, and the second prize is $350 in gift certificates. Who doesn’t like gift certificates, especially at this time of year?”
The former Fashion Barn will be transformed into “Whoville.”
“Check out the fabulous setting thanks to Homer and Joann Beaty, Zion Church, Lighting Unlimited and Vibrant, who have partnered with Main Street Columbus in this year’s fun. Have your picture taken with a ‘Whoville’ character. Be sure to wear your mask and stay socially distanced,” Bigelow said.
Dress in costume as a “Whoville” character, stop at the photo booth inside “Whoville” and have your photo taken for a chance to win a prize.
Traditional holiday singing will be provided in Leadership Plaza by carolers from Sunday Local.
“After enjoying a great time, dine in one of our fabulous downtown restaurants or view ‘The Grinch Movie’ at 8:30 p.m. inside The Princess Theater, provided by Sunday Local,” Bigelow said. The movie is free at the recently-renovated venue.
The Grinch Fest is sponsored by the City of Columbus, Homer and Joann Beaty, Main Street Columbus, Lighting Unlimited, Zion Church, Vibrant, DexImaging and WSMS 99.9 and presented by Saint Leo University Columbus Air Force Base.
