Business owners interested in learning new strategies for the changing economic times will have the opportunity to work with a customer service and business development expert Thursday as the Columbus-Lowndes Development Link concludes its “ABCs of Business” seminar series.
Barbara Wold, known for her work with Fortune 500 companies, will speak Thursday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Nissan Auditorium at Mississippi University for Women. The seminar, “A New Direction, a New Economy,” will focus on how economic fluctuations have changed customer habits and what business owners can do to capture — and keep — customers, using methods they may not be using.
The event is free and open to the public, including non-Link members, but attendees are encouraged to reserve tickets on the Link’s website at www.cld.org.
Wold has spoken to companies including BMW, Liz Claiborne, Skechers and Nordstrom department stores.
“Her resume reads like a Fortune 500 list,” said Karen Stanley, owner of neonFROG, Inc., a local marketing firm handling publicity for the event. “She’s just worked with huge brands.”
Today, Wold spoke with business owners about sales techniques, focusing on the idea that everyone has a product to sell, even if that product is just themselves.
Her message is not just geared towards owners of retail businesses, Stanley said, adding that 16 Link members have signed up for additional one-on-one training with Wold.
“Anybody who works in a sales or service-oriented business is going to benefit from this,” Stanley said. “It’s really going to be an exciting presentation.”
Stanley said the response has been positive to the “ABCs of Business” series, and the Link is looking to bring more experts in for similar programs.
