Members from 27 Mississippi Exchange Clubs will be in Columbus this weekend for the 96th Annual Mississippi District Exchange Convention.
This is the first year Columbus has hosted the convention, according to Elizabeth Johnson, an Exchange Club member and former president of the Columbus club.
Between 75-100 people are expected to attend the convention.
The event begins Friday with a golf tournament at Lion Hills Golf Course. A welcome reception and dinner will follow at Lion Hills Center.
Saturday attendees will be treated to a tour of Columbus from the city’s double-decker bus and tour antebellum homes. The event also includes an awards lunch, business meeting and election of 2016-2017 officers and multiple guest speakers. There will also be a banquet held at the Rosenzweig Arts Center.
At lunch, the MS District Youth of the Year and ACE award winners will be recognized. West Point native and retired lieutenant colonel of the Air Force Gail Swentkofske will also speak.
The convention will conclude with the One Nation Under God Celebration Sunday. Columbus Air Force Base chaplain Lieutenant Colonel Brian E. McCormack will speak at the celebration, Johnson said.
Johnson said the Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau has been helpful in organizing entertainment and events for the weekend.
