JACKSON — A former Lee County deputy has pleaded guilty to secretly removing cash from people”s wallets during traffic stops.
The Justice Department said 35-year-old Michael Shane Minich pleaded guilty Thursday before U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock in Aberdeen to depriving citizens of their civil rights under color of law.
Minich pleaded guilty to taking money from four different individuals, all of whom were Hispanic.
Each offense carries a maximum possible penalty of one year in prison, one year of supervised release and a $100,000 fine.
