LOWNDES COUNTY – The former Caledonia Park Commission treasurer has been ordered to pay $12,256.65 in restitution after being sentenced for embezzlement.
Megan Berry, 36, pleaded guilty in May for pocketing thousands of dollars in park funds when she was employed with the commission between Jan. 1 and June 21, 2022, according to Lowndes County Circuit Court documents. In addition to restitution, she received a five-year suspended prison sentence and a $600 fine.
A Lowndes County grand jury indicted Berry for embezzlement in July 2024.
“I’m grateful that we’re able to work with prosecutors around the state on cases like this,” State Auditor Shad White said in a press release his office issued Monday. “We will continue to work on cases big and small to ensure your money is spent properly.”
The attorney general’s office prosecuted the case.
