NEW HOPE – The American Legion Department of Mississippi recently named Lee Boyd, history teacher and head baseball coach at New Hope High School, educator of the year during the organization’s annual convention.
Boyd, nominated for the honor by T.S. Patterson of American Legion Post 69, has taught in Mississippi public schools for more than 18 years, earning various honors and awards during his career, including winning three state championships.
“Mr. Boyd is not just a teacher. He is a builder of character, a leader among his peers, and a steady guide for the young men and women entrusted to his care,” said New Hope High School Principal Matt Smith. “His classroom is a space where respect for the country, for one another, and for the responsibilities of citizenship are woven into every lesson. Whether teaching in the classroom or leading one on the field, Mr. Boyd instills in his students the values of integrity, perseverance, and teamwork.”
Outside of school, Lee is a devoted father and husband who is active in various areas of the community.
“In a time when strong role models are more vital than ever, Lee Boyd shines as one of the best,” American Legion Department of Mississippi Chairman William Moran said in a press release. “He doesn’t just teach students; he inspires them. He doesn’t just coach teams; he molds leaders. His life’s work is a testament to the power of education, patriotism, and service.”
