You might not have noticed Deanna Robinson, but she’s probably noticed you.
For the past seven years, Robinson has been a photographer with The Dispatch. Along the way, she’s shot everything from Community Profiles and Local Folks to political candidates and parades.
Now Robinson is struggling with thyroid cancer and contending with a child who recently had to have surgery following an accident. Some good Samaritans are trying to give her some help.
“It’s a lot at once,” said Realtor and charity party maven Colin Krieger. “We thought we should step in and do something to relieve at least a little of the pressure on her.”

That “something” is a charity concert called Do It For Deanna. Krieger is working alongside Caleb McCoy-Wren and Zachary’s owner Doug Pellum to organize the event, which is set for Nov. 5 at Zachary’s.
“We want the event to be as fun as possible,” Krieger said. “We’ve got people working on getting items for a raffle. We’ve got a couple of bands. We want a Sunday afternoon party in this beautiful fall weather.”
Krieger said as of now Hartle Road, WhiteHawk, Burning Blue and Mookie are all set to perform, and BBQ will be provided by Hogg Ugly.
The show starts at 1 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee. All of the proceeds – including from the raffle – will go straight to Robinson, Krieger said.
“We want to celebrate her, because she’s an accomplished photographer and just a good spirit,” Krieger said. “She just needs a hand, and we’re trying to lend her one.”
Krieger said the event is still looking for sponsors, and donations of items to be raffled off are welcome.
To donate, contact Krieger at (662) 329-7653.
Dispatch Publisher Peter Imes praised Robinson’s contributions at the newspaper.
“For more than seven years, Deanna’s photography has helped us tell the stories of the people in our community, including fundraisers for others,” Imes said. “It’s heart-warming to see folks rally around her.”
Robinson said she was overwhelmed by the support.
“I’m humbled that friends would do this for me,” Robinson said. “It was completely unexpected and appreciated. I never imagined I would be in a position to need this kind of help, and it’s so encouraging to experience such an outpouring of generosity.”
