
CLAY COUNTY – Outside money is in play in the Clay County sheriff’s race, with a Washington, D.C.-based political action group spending money to unseat incumbent Eddie Scott.
The Local Accountability Political Action Committee was formed in opposition to Scott. It has reported raising a total of $3,002, all of which was in the July reporting period and used for phone banking. The sole donor is listed as Sheriffs for Trusting Committees, which is based in Durham, North Carolina.
It reported spending all $3,002 and has no cash on hand.
Incumbent Eddie Scott reported $1,000 in contributions during the most recent reporting period, of which $900 was itemized.
Candidates in state and local races must file periodic campaign finance reports and itemize contributions or expenditures of $200 or greater.
Donors included $400 from Charles Younger and $250 each from Coleman Enterprises and Rhea Enterprises. Scott reported spending $5,803.
He has received a total of $2,850 in contributions, and reports a cash balance of negative $2,953.
Cedric Sykes reported no contributions, no expenditures and no cash on hand.
The Committee to Elect Ramirez Williams raised $1,020 in contributions during the last reporting period, of which $500 was itemized. That $500 was given by an anonymous donor. It reported $592 in expenditures during the last reporting period.
The committee has raised a total of $8,313 to date, and reports $320 in cash on hand.
Williams has not personally reported any contributions or expenditures.
All are running as Democrats.
Circuit clerk
Incumbent Kim Brown Hood reported $100 in non-itemized contributions during the last reporting period, but has received a total of $8,860 to date. She reported spending $273 during the last reporting period. She has $3,475 in cash on hand.
Challenger Sawana Walker-Bean did not file a report by the deadline.
Both are running as Democrats.
District 1 supervisor
Incumbent Lynn Horton and challenger Mike Duke are both running as Democrats. Neither filed a report by the deadline.
District 2 supervisor
Independent Johnnie Collins did not file a report by the deadline.
Democrat Bob Lummus reported no contributions, and $1,064 in expenditures. He reports no cash on hand.
Daryl Thomas, also running as a Democrat, reported no contributions, no expenditures and no cash on hand.
Incumbent Luke Lummus is not seeking reelection.
District 3 supervisor
Incumbent R.B. Davis and challengers Heath Donahoo and Jake Pollard are all running as Democrats, and none of them filed a report by the deadline.
Republican Larry Smith reported no fundraising, no expenditures and no cash on hand.
District 4 supervisor
Catina Brown did not timely file a report.
Rashaan Ivy reported no contributions, and $190 in expenditures during the reporting period. He reported total expenditures of $867. He has reported no contributions to date and no cash on hand.
Melvin Raines reported no contributions, and $2,503 in expenditures. He reports having raised no funds, and no cash on hand.
Jerry Randle did not file a report by the deadline.
Barry Smitherman reported no contributions, and $3,639 in expenditures.
