Columbus Fire and Rescue is looking to work with the Columbus Police Department to find a person of interest following a suspicious house fire early Saturday morning.
CFR Chief Duane Hughes told The Dispatch firefighters and CPD responded to a large house fire around 6 a.m. Saturday at 115 14th St. N., behind Noweta’s Green Thumb.
“The home had no occupants and is a complete loss,” Hughes said via text. “… A person of interest is being sought for questioning at this time.”
CFR Fire Marshall Michael Walker said a CPD officer told first responders at the scene that a person was removed from the house Friday night.
While CPD is not actively looking into the case, Walker said he hopes to meet with officers soon to begin an investigation. The cause of the fire is also unknown at this time, Walker said.
“We know that there was no power to the home, so we know it had to be started by someone,” Walker said. “We do not have a person identified at this time. (CPD) ran a person out of there last night, but as far as if that’s the person who started it we don’t know yet. We are going to try and talk to the CPD and ring them in.”
