Two Columbus men face aggravated assault charges after investigators connected them to two unrelated shootings in the city earlier this year.
Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton confirmed Mark Anthony McCoy, 55, of Avenue A, is the suspect in a shooting on Sixth Street South on Jan. 5, that sent one person to a hospital in another city for trauma care. Investigators located McCoy at the Cook County Jail in Chicago and arrested him Saturday.
Columbus police also arrested Terrius Montai Armistad, 19, of Sylvan Road, for a shooting on Jan. 24. Armistad allegedly shot a man in his 20s at his home on 20th Street North. The victim was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Armistad was arrested Friday. Both he and McCoy are in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. McCoy’s bond has been set at $175,000. Armistad’s bond has not been set.
