The Columbus Police Department and the Columbus Community Neighborhood Watch are hosting the 2012 Columbus Community Glitz Ball July 20 to raise money for the CPD’s annual Christmas toy drive, the Columbus Police Explorers and National Night Out On Crime events.
“We appreciate your help and would especially enjoy seeing you at this year’s event,” said CPD Chief Selvain McQueen. “Your presence also sends the message that you care about your community and the efforts of your police department.”
Those unable to attend the ball or donate money still have the power to impact the lives of area children, CPD Chief Selvain McQueen said Monday.
“I encourage people to come out,” he said. “But we’re asking if people don’t want to donate money or their time or anything for the silent auction, they go out and purchase school supplies for the needy children. That way we can distribute school supplies and that’s ultimately what we’ll be doing. Rather than write checks, they can donate backpacks, pencils or any kind of school supplies, anything that would be on a school supply list. We can get them to the sites and distribute them. If someone buys notebook paper or things like that, they’ll know those items can be donated to the Columbus Police Department and we’ll get them to the kids.”
The Glitz Ball will be held at the Trotter Convention Center at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and VIP tables for eight people can be purchased for $185. Tickets are sold at The House of Tux, located at 421 Main Street in downtown Columbus. They also can be purchased at the CPD, located in the Columbus Municipal Complex, Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Checks should be made payable to the Columbus Community Neighborhood Watch.
