The Columbus Police Department and Columbus Fire & Rescue are sponsoring a Haunted House and other Halloween activities to raise money for firefighters and police officers.
Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 6 p.m., Trotter Convention Center will host festivities, according to Community Police Officer Rhonda Sanders. Families can enjoy barbeque, drink, face painting and music for only $8 a plate. Those wishing to explore the Haunted House can buy a wrist band at the Convention Center before being escorted across the street to the house.
“And when I say a haunted house, I mean a haunted house,” said Sanders. “I went over there at 8 a.m. the other morning … and they had me scared to even go in there and help them work on it.”
Tickets to the Haunted House are $5 for kids and $10 for adults, Sanders said. Kids who don’t want to brave the Haunted House can trunk-or-treat from hearses from local funeral homes outside Trotter.
The majority of funds from the Haunted House will be split between the Firefighter’s Scholarship and Disability Fund and two police officers suffering from health problems — Sgt. Michael Griffin, who recently suffered a heart attack, and Officer Benny Bush, who is recovering from a stroke.
The CPD will also host a Haunted Hollow 8K Glow Run on Friday, Sanders said. Registration is $25 and starts at 7 p.m. at the Trotter Convention Center. Runners can also register online at active.com. Dressed in glow necklaces and bracelets, runners will take a route that begins at the Soccer Complex and ends at the Riverwalk. Businesses along the route will be decorated for Halloween, and a prize will be given to the business with the “spookiest spot”, according to Sanders.
Money from the 8K will also go to support Griffin, Bush and their families.
