A Columbus man has been charged for allegedly biting a police officer during his arrest Friday.
Demon Clopton Jr., 18, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault and armed robbery out of Noxubee County, according to law enforcement officials. Columbus police officers pulled him over on Ninth Avenue North Friday morning to arrest him for the outstanding warrants, and a scuffle broke out during which he bit one of the officers on the leg, Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton told The Dispatch.
Shelton said the officer was not seriously injured.
Clopton has been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and several misdemeanors, including resisting arrest.
He is currently in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center with no bond for the felony charge.
