The Columbus-Lowndes Recreation Authority has increased its facility rental rate, adding in the cost of a North Atlantic Security officer to open and close the buildings.
The CLRA board Monday voted to increase the rental rates, at the recommendation of CLRA Director Roger Short.
The cleanup fee was increased from $50 to $100, which is refundable, as long as the facility is clean and in order when the parties leave. And the building rental fee was increased from $250 to $300.
Total rental cost comes to $350, including the refundable deposit.
A portion of the increase — $50 — will go to NAS for opening and closing the buildings after events.
“What we”d like to have is a uniform presence upon closing,” Short said.
Community centers will close at midnight on Saturdays, with the exception of Sandfield, which will continue to close at 10 p.m.
Short said the Sandfield community center is in a neighborhood with many senior citizens, and CLRA has had complaints in the past about late-night events held at the facility.
An NAS officer will arrive on the premises about 20 minutes prior to closing time and will allow the renters time after the official closing time to clean the building after the event ends.
Board members also got an update on CLRA programs at neighborhood parks.
“Right now, registration is very low for community baseball,” said Greg Lewis, programs coordinator for CLRA.
About 47 players are registered for community baseball, and the CLRA has extended the registration deadline to the end of this week.
“If that doesn”t pan out, we”ll have to look at another activity,” Lewis said.
The Art in the Park program, Lewis said, is “doing well.”
“It is a viable program,” he added, noting the CLRA participates in the USDA”s summer feeding program, offering students who participate in Art in the Park lunch at no charge.
