During a special meeting Monday, the Columbus City Council voted to fire a Columbus Fire Department employee for being drunk while representing the city during an out-of-town training session.
Mitchell Banks, who served as a CPD fireman for about 18 months, earlier was suspended after being drunk during a professional conference in Jackson; the council Monday voted to terminate Banks, effective immediately, for violating the city”s substance abuse policy.
Banks reportedly failed to attend a scheduled conference session and was awakened, two hours into the session, by the conference director, who found Banks still intoxicated from the night before.
