A Columbus cyclist went to the hospital Sunday evening after a vehicle struck him on Yorkville Road East near Armstrong Road.
The 21-year-old man was traveling east on Yorkville Road when a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban, also heading east, hit him about 5:45 p.m. Michael A. Watkins, 26, of 38 Petersburg Road, was knocked off his bike.
Watkins was treated and released from Baptist Memorial Hospital- Golden Triangle with lower back pain and an injured left elbow.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Ashli Holliman, 26, of 55 Sleepy Fawn Parkway in Columbus. Her children, ages 3 and 1, were in the car with her, Lowndes County Chief Deputy Greg Wright said. They were not injured.
Wright said Holliman “did not see the cyclist until impact.” No one was charged in the incident.
There are no street lights at or around where the accident happened.
Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident and blocked off the road for around 15 minutes. An officer on scene said the vehicle hit the handle bar and caused the bike’s rider to fall off.
