A Columbus chiropractor pled guilty Wednesday to falsifying the insurance claims of four patients to swindle Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi out of thousands of dollars.
Dr. James Donovan, 63, of the Donovan Chiropractic Clinic, was arrested May 2010 after filing false claims between Jan. 1, 2007, and March 23, 2008, according to the Attorney General”s Office.
Wednesday, Lowndes County Circuit Judge Jim Kitchens sentenced Donovan under a plea agreement to two years of house arrest. Kitchens also ordered him to pay $3,555.55 in restitution to the insurance company and $500 to the crime victim compensation fund.
Attorney General Jim Hood released a statement Wednesday warning against medical insurance fraud.
“Those who file false or inflated claims for medical procedures are almost always caught in the paper trail,” he stated.
