It”s a rumor that”s been traveling the grapevine in Columbus for years.
But Kenny Wiegel, building official for the city of Columbus has confirmed it: Chick-fil-A is opening a location in The Friendly City.
Chick-fil-A will occupy the land previously taken by Caney Fork restaurant, off 18th Avenue North, next to Leigh Mall. The old Caney Fork building will be demolished, Wiegel said. Chick-fil-A will build in its place.
Caney Fork closed in 2010 due to dispute with its leasing agency. Then, restaurant President Marc Barhonovich had wanted to consider reopening the restaurant, if it could negotiate its leases on buildings and restaurant equipment.
The permit to build the new facility was issued on Wednesday.
According to Chick-fil-A Cares in Atlanta, where the restaurant”s corporate office is based.
Chick-fil-A is scheduled to open in Columbus, January 2012.
