One man has been seriously wounded in a shooting that allegedly sprung from a love triangle, according to Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry.
Late Thursday night a man attempted to confront his wife and her alleged lover in a home in the 900 block of 10th Street North, Daughtry said.
The wife was in the process of opening the door when the distraught husband forced his way inside, Daughtry said. The homeowner had a gun in his hand and was at the door when it was opened.
“The victim was shot as he entered the front door,” Daughtry said.
The victim was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center with serious injuries, and is still in the hospital as of press time, according to Daughtry.
No charges have been filed against the homeowner.
“The incident will likely fall under the castle doctrine law, which allows residents in their home to protect themselves if they feel threatened or in danger in any way,” Daughtry said.
Daughtry said the case will be presented to the grand jury for consideration, but the victim was clearly inside the home when the resident shot him.
No other injuries were reported.
