A Lowndes County man ended up behind bars after leading police on a chase through the town of Caledonia, Tuesday.
Sheriff”s deputies and narcotics agents visited John Jay Walters” Caledonia home Tuesday to arrest him for violation of probation.
Walters was not at his 2077 Honnoll Mill Road residence, but Lowndes County deputies and narcotics agents found the remnants of a methamphetamine lab and several precursor chemicals.
As deputies searched the premises, Walters pulled up on a motorcycle and fled upon seeing law enforcement. He led one patrol car and two unmarked narcotics vehicles on a brief chase through Caledonia.
“It was a short pursuit, maybe five minutes on country roads,” said Joey Brackin, an agent with the Columbus-Lowndes Metro Narcotics unit. “It wasn”t at real high speeds. He was just trying to use the motorcycle to find himself a ditch to jump and get away from us.”
Walters was apprehended without incident after fleeing on foot into a field off of Perkins Road.
Walters, 25, is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a weapon by a felon, fleeing or eluding in a motor vehicle and violation of probation.
