Shuqualak Lumber recognized for energy use
Shuqualak Lumber, along with several other 4-County Electric Power Association commercial customers, is doing its part to curb peak electricity demand for the Tennessee Valley Authority and help keep electric prices affordable.
The company is part of a demand response program offered through 4-County and TVA. The program offers incentives to businesses that agree to cut power use during TVA”s highest peak demand times. The program, managed by EnerNOC, a demand response provider, has been in place since 2008 and Shuqualak Lumber was one of the earliest participants.
Shuqualak Lumber is one of the largest privately-owned independent producers of southern yellow pine in the southeast. The company was started in 1948 and has about 100 employees. It produces about 80 million board feet of lumber a year for customers mainly in the Midwest and Northeast United States.
