Mississippi Pharmacists Association announced Jerry Fortenberry as the recipient of the 2025 Bowl of Hygeia Award, a prestigious honor in the pharmacy profession.
The award recognizes pharmacists who have an outstanding record of civic leadership and professional service. It is presented annually by state pharmacy associations in collaboration with the American Pharmacists Association.
As a pharmacist, business owner and long-time advocate, Fortenberry’s impact extends across independent, hospital and retail pharmacy settings, a MPhA press release said.
Fortenberry co-founded the Mississippi Association of Recovering Pharmacists in 1987 and has provided membership, advocacy and hope to colleagues across the state through his leadership in the association.
He is also deeply involved in civic and cultural life in Columbus, holding leadership roles in various organizations including Columbus Arts Council, Columbus Exchange Club and Lowndes County Master Gardeners.
“Jerry is the person you call when you’re at your lowest – and he always answers,” April McAdory Miller of the Mississippi Public Health Institute. “His belief in others, especially during their most difficult moments, has changed lives – including mine.”
