The death of a woman whose body was found Tuesday morning outside an abandoned duplex apartment at the end of Industrial Street has been ruled a homicide, officials confirmed.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, in a text message to The Dispatch, identified the victim as Ashanti Jade Turner, 25.
Columbus Police Department Captain of Investigations Terence Ware, who spoke to The Dispatch on the scene at about 11:30 a.m., said police received an anonymous phone call telling them where the body was. Shortly after, officers arrived on the scene.
Ware said the body had most likely been outside overnight.
No arrests had been made by press time.
Officers questioned members of a crowd that had gathered on the street, asking for additional information about the woman or her death.
Anyone with information pertinent to the case, including the anonymous caller, is encouraged to contact the Columbus Police Department, Ware said.
“The caller that called in, that we don’t know who it is yet … call us back and give us more details in reference to how you knew this person was here,” Ware said. “That would be a big help to us.”
