CALEDONIA — The Caledonia Board of Aldermen Tuesday approved a motion for Trey Robertson, an employee of the city”s water department, to retake the Mississippi Rural Water Certification test in Biloxi on Sept. 13.
Robertson had trouble with the algebra questions on the exam, but he scored high in areas that come up in his daily work.
The Caledonia Water Department is required to have at least one employee who passed the exam, and Water Superintendent Benny Coleman is the only one who is certified. Coleman, 60, plans to retire in the next few years.
- In other business, the board:
- Approved the town”s water bills and financial statements.
- Approved a motion to transfer $7,500 to the Fire Department from Caledonia”s general account.
- Agreed to reimburse Caledonia Day club members for receipts under $100.
- Approved a motion to pay registration, mileage and other expense for city officials to attend the Mississippi Municipal League”s Small Town Conference on Nov. 3-4.
- Heard a report from Coleman, who noted he installed sensors to monitor the levels of sewage in the lagoon at the end of North Church Street.
- Unanimously approved a motion to increase the pay for Town Marshal Ben Kilgore”s deputies, Carl Griffin and Lance Lucky. They will now be paid $12 per hour not to exceed 25 hours per month.
- Voted to name the road in Ola J. Pickett Park Bill Lawrence Circle, after the past mayor.
n Rescinded a previous motion to send Caledonia Mayor George Gerhart to the North Mississippi Mayors” Association.
