A 29-year-old Biloxi man is dead after a Monday crash on Highway 45 Alternate in Monroe County, county Coroner Alan Gurley reports.
According to Monroe County deputy sheriffs, they were observing traffic on Highway 45 Alternate near Smokey”s Truck Stop when a 2003 Black Kia was driving north on 45A faster than 100 mph.
The deputies tried to stop vehicle, driven by O”Keefe. He did not stop and eventually lost control of vehicle, crossed the median and flipped several times before coming to rest in the southbound lane.
O”Keefe was thrown from the vehicle and was found dead at the scene, Gurley wrote in a news release. He was not wearing a seat belt.
The incident happened around 11:52 Monday night; O”Keefe crashed about 3.7 miles from where deputies tried to stop him, just north of Okolona and south of Shannon.
Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating accident along with the Monroe County Coroner”s Office.
