From handmade soaps to quilts and woodworking, about half a dozen artisans gathered Saturday at the Tennessee Williams Welcome Center to sell their wares at Artisans” Alley.
“It”s been great all day,” Nancy Carpenter, manager of the Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau Cultural Heritage Foundation, Saturday said of the event. “It”s been real steady all day. Everything we have is homemade, handmade, which makes it really special. We”re so grateful to these artisans for being here. They”re such talented people and it”s special to take something handmade from Mississippi back to another state. It”s wonderful for us.”
Artisans” Alley was held as one of many events associated with Columbus Pilgrimage, which, by Saturday, brought in visitors from 29 states and eight countries, Carpenter said.
Gifted students from the sixth-grade Pathfinders class at Heritage Academy also were on hand, dressed in period costume, selling copies of “More Houses Talk” and “Houses Talk,” books, created by the students, offering a first-person look at the past of some of Columbus” homes built between 1828 and 1858.
Events of the 69th annual Columbus Pilgrimage — home and garden tours, living history, dramatic presentations and carriage rides — continue through April 11. Tickets and events and tour information are available from the Welcome Center, 300 Main St., or call 662-328-0222.
