No one was injured Tuesday night when fire broke out in an apartment on Lynn Lane, about a half-mile from the scene of the Academy Crossing Apartments blaze that killed nine people in late December.
The fire Tuesday began around 10 p.m. in Green Tree Apartments, unit 26C, said Kirk Rosenhan, Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator.
“They had a kitchen fire that got a little out of hand,” Rosenhan said. “Nobody got hurt and damage is relatively minor. It was a pretty good little fire, but no big deal.”
Firefighters spent their time at the scene “cutting and pulling” to gain access to the fire, which spread from the first floor to the second floor, and had to punch a hole in the attic and “pull out” some vents during the ordeal, Rosenhan said. The fire destroyed the kitchen and caused some heat and smoke damage to at least one other apartment in the building, Rosenhan said.
“We”re just glad nobody got hurt,” he said.
