ANNISTON, Ala. – A 23-year-old woman has been found guilty of aggravated child abuse after authorities say she fed methamphetamine and ecstasy to her boyfriend”s baby.
The Calhoun County jury deliberated more than three hours Wednesday before convicting Stevette Patrice Chapman of Anniston of abuse and drug possession. The jury passed over a charge of attempted murder.
Authorities say Chapman was watching her boyfriend”s 10-week-old baby in 2008 when the drugs were ingested. Chapman said she did not intentionally feed drugs to the child.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 18. Bond for Chapman has been set at $175,000.
